Arya News - The draft National Strategy on Artificial Intelligence for 2026-2035 and the draft Strategy on the Development and Use of Satellites in Laos for 2026-2035 are among the topics tabled for discussion at the government’s monthly meeting this week.
VIENTIANE – The government is preparing 10-year strategies concerning artificial intelligence and satellite technology as Laos seeks to expand advanced technologies and support national development.
The draft National Strategy on Artificial Intelligence for 2026-2035 and the draft Strategy on the Development and Use of Satellites in Laos for 2026-2035 are among the topics tabled for discussion at the government’s monthly meeting this week.
The September government meeting opened on Tuesday at the Office of the Prime Minister, chaired by Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.
Deputy prime ministers, Cabinet members and representatives of ministries and ministry-equivalent agencies attended the session in person, while leaders of local administrations joined by videoconference.
The session is scheduled to run for two and a half days to discuss and consider five agenda items covering 16 topics.
The proposed artificial intelligence strategy will cover the 2026-2035 period, while the satellite strategy will provide a 10-year framework for the development and use of satellites in Laos.
The two strategies are part of a wider range of measures being considered by the government to spur national development and address economic priorities in the digital era.
The agenda also covers the implementation of a Government Resolution on dividing responsibilities for carrying out the Politburo’s Resolution on building an independent and self-reliant economy.
Another topic concerns grassroots political foundation-building, rural development and poverty reduction under the Party’s Three Builds (Sam Sang) directive, together with the National Agenda on Rural Development and Poverty Reduction.
The meeting will also discuss the 2026 socio-economic development, state budget and monetary plans, together with the direction of plans for 2027.
The session is also considering three national action plans for 2026-2030 covering gender equality, mothers and children, and the prevention and elimination of violence against women and children.
Other major issues include amendments to the Electricity Law and Minerals Law.
The government is also considering a proposal to merge the draft Law on Health Insurance and the draft Law on Social Security into a single law.
The session will further consider research findings on draft legislation concerning the division of management levels and responsibilities among sectors at the Tasaeng, or sub-district, level.
A proposal to adopt a new logo for the Ministry of Culture and Tourism is also included.
Prime Minister Sonexay called on Cabinet members and other participants to study the issues closely and provide direct, concise and focused views.
He urged participants to put forward clear solutions based on the actual circumstances of each issue and within the set timeframe.
The outcomes of the September meeting will guide work towards achieving the government’s priorities and plans in the coming period.
