Japan, U.S., South Korea stand ‘firmly against economic coercion’, make announcement after New York talks
Arya News - The three foreign ministers—Toshimitsu Motegi, Marco Rubio and Cho Hyun—agreed to deepen cooperation on resilient supply chains, energy security and maritime collaboration, while reaffirming support for peace in the Taiwan Strait and the complete denuclearisation of North Korea.

NEW YORK/WASHINGTON – Japan, the United States and South Korea have announced in a joint statement that they stand firmly against economic coercion, including arbitrary export restrictions, with China in mind.
Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun held talks for about 40 minutes and issued the statement in New York on Monday.
The three agreed to cooperate to formulate resilient supply chain strategies. They also welcomed the progress of regional cooperation in the energy sector, including “Powerr Asia” (Partnership on Wide Energy and Resources Resilience Asia), a Japan-led energy procurement framework.
The three agreed to continue their cooperation in terms of maritime cooperation in the Arctic and expanding energy supplies, but did not sign a memorandum of understanding on the efforts, for which relevant arrangements had been made.
Emphasizing the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, the three also reaffirmed their opposition to any unilateral attempts to change the status quo in the area ahead of the U.S.-China summit scheduled for Thursday.
The three also agreed to work toward the complete denuclearization of North Korea and the immediate resolution of the issue of the abductions of Japanese nationals by the country.
After the meeting, Motegi held a private discussion with Rubio for about 10 minutes. According to a Japanese government source, the two discussed situations in the Indo-Pacific region.
Regarding the U.S. sanctions on International Criminal Court President Tomoko Akane, Motegi told Rubio that sanctions “are incompatible with Japan’s position.”
